sore throat, deeper voice, lump in neck.

- not there yet -

first three weeks we’re a breeze until we hit 4th week. she felt nauseous, blisters in her throat, mouth, and then when we hit the 5th week her skin broke open on the outside. from the bottom of her ears, to her chest. this is from june til july 9th 08

fatigue, nauseous, loss of hair, very very weak.

My worked in a nursing home that she worked for, for 7 years as a caregiver. they became like family to her, and I. ( i work there now) that they dedicated nursing home week to her and raised money for her. it was so unexpected but brought tears to our eyes.

Month later update!! =)Views: 122

it’s been almost a month since her last radiation treatment. i CAN say she’s doing much better. she still feels very tired & weak. it’s still hard for her to eat. as soon as she was done with radiation she had a thought or maybe even a “wish” that should we be able to eat again. she started eating and that would make her throw up and choke. i told her, why would you try right now when your throat isnt even HEALED? thats why your in soo much pain. she started refusing her feeding tube feedings and assisted she wants REAL food. well that didnt turn out to well. yes she can eat soft stuff, like mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, etc. but it’s still very hard and NOT enough calories. she’s lost a little over 40lbs since shes been first diagnosed. now, shes 102 lbs. she just gained two lbs the last 2 days. shes now doing feedings b/c she realizes this is whats gonna make her better and she needs the strength. she does have a middle ear infection which is deep inside her ear. she started deaf in that one year, and it started scaring her b/c of the pain too! she saw the ENT that detected the tumor the 1st time and she said…wow… if i would’ve never known you had cancer i’d say you’d NEVER had it! isnt that great wonderful news?! he doesnt see ANYTHING in her throat/mouth. no more lesions or signs of tumor. but STILL we have to wait i think 4 or 5 more weeks until she can get her PET scan! anyways.. thought i’d stop by and tell you guys how shes doing. better attitude as well. shes even wanting to go places, and get out. she gets very tired and worn out easily but we just take it day by day. lots of love & hugs to everyone! xoxox

So glad things are looking up for you and your family! Keep us posted.

I’m so happy to see your post! I know its been hard for yall, and I’m also glad to hear that things are going better. Give your mom a hug and kiss from us!

Hi Rachel; Thanks for updating the group. You really are a trooper and dear daughter to your lovely Mom. This must be so hard on you and the rest of the family. I have been a caretaker to all my family who have had cancer and it is no walk in the park so to speak. Hopefully the feeding tube will do its job and then she can be healed and start to eat real food. Mac N Cheese is not real to me. Ugh. How about Ensure? Have you tried that? 3 Flavours and it is the most recommended food supplement for Cancer patiets. The shakes taste really good especially if they are blasting cold. Good luck on all this caring and keep us posted. Weezie
